Orofacial Myology
Enhancing Facial Function for a Healthier Smile
At Newtown Elite Dental, we understand that the muscles of the head and neck play a crucial role in the growth, development, and overall function of your face.
Orofacial Myology is a specialized approach that focuses on strengthening and retraining these muscles to support optimal facial and oral health.
Through a series of targeted exercises, our Orofacial Myologist works with you to improve muscle coordination, function, and strength.
This can help address issues such as improper swallowing, tongue posture, or muscle weakness that may affect your bite, speech, or overall facial development.
In some cases, chewing appliances may be introduced to help enhance the effectiveness of your exercise routine.
Think of it like a fitness program for the muscles of your face and neck.
By strengthening weak areas and retraining the muscles, we can help you achieve better overall oral health, improved facial aesthetics, and even greater comfort in daily activities.
Kristy Ohara leads our Orofacial Myology program, guiding patients through a structured process to correct muscle dysfunction and improve oral function.
The program begins with a comprehensive assessment to identify issues such as tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, or poor swallowing patterns.
Based on this, Kristy develops a personalized treatment plan with simple daily exercises (5 minutes, 2-3 times a day) and follow-up assessments every two weeks.
Treatment typically includes eight sessions for children, while adults may require longer care.
This structured approach ensures lasting improvements in facial function, breathing, and overall oral health.
